  • A valid driver's license — international licenses are accepted
  • A valid credit card for the security deposit (debit cards can't be used for the deposit)

Driving in Aruba

Frequently asked

How do I collect the car?
After you land, Amigo sends you simple pick-up instructions — collect the car at the airport office right across from Arrivals, or at the main office in Oranjestad. You'll do a little paperwork on collection and then the car is yours for the whole stay.
What's the minimum age to rent?
The minimum age is 23. Drivers aged 21–22 can still rent, but the Collision & Loss Damage Waiver becomes mandatory and a larger deposit applies.
What insurance is included, and do I need extra?
Third-party (liability) insurance is included in every rate — it covers the other party if you're at fault in a collision. No extra insurance is required, but we recommend adding the optional Collision/Loss Damage Waiver (CDW/LDW), which limits what you'd owe for damage to the rental after the deductible. It applies to collisions with another vehicle and requires a police report; it does not cover one-way damage (rocks, walls, curbs), theft or driving under the influence.
Can I drive into Arikok National Park or on the beach?
Only 4×4 vehicles are permitted in Arikok National Park, and only on flat dirt roads — you may not drive down to the Natural Pool. Regular cars are not allowed in the park or on the rugged north coast. Driving on sand dunes and beaches is prohibited by Aruban law for every vehicle.
What about an additional driver or a child seat?
An additional driver can be added — free for married couples, with up to three drivers per car. A child seat is also available. Just let us know when you book and we'll have everything ready.
How does the deposit and pre-authorization work?
A refundable security deposit is held on your credit card (a temporary "hold," not a charge) — the amount depends on the vehicle class and is confirmed with your quotation. The hold is released after you return the car; depending on your bank it can take a few business days to clear. Deposits can't be left on a debit card, though a cash deposit is possible if you also take the daily damage waiver.
What's the cancellation policy?
Reservations can be cancelled free of charge up to 48 hours before your rental date. Cancelling within 48 hours means a one-day rental charge applies.
Do I return the car with a full tank?
Please return the car with the same amount of fuel it had when you collected it; otherwise the missing fuel is charged. A few models run on diesel rather than gasoline — we'll always tell you which fuel your car takes.
